A Disincentive to Work for a Promotion in Galveston County

Galveston Commissioners plan to take a look at a county policy that some office holders believe penalizes hard working employees for earning promotions.  The discussion began with a request from the district attorney to waive the policy for one of his current employees.  The policy limits the size of salary increases to 10 percent for employees who are promoted.  The DA points out that a new employee could be paid more to start than a current employee who’s just been promoted into the job as chief prosecutor.  The Galveston County Daily News reports commissioners plan to drill down on the issue during an upcoming budget workshop.  More here…
