NUEVO LAREDO, Mexico (AP) – Nearly three dozen young immigrants raised in the United States are donning caps and gowns as they attempt to return to the U.S. at a bridge on the Texas-Mexico border.

They carry perfect English, wardrobes that made them stick out in hometowns they never really knew and hope that their protest will allow them to reconnect with families scattered across the U.S.

The 32 trying to cross at the port of entry in Laredo, Texas, Monday hope to follow in the footsteps of the so-called Dream Nine who were released pending asylum hearings in Arizona in August after spending two weeks in detention.

The group spent a week of preparatory meetings and bonding at a Nuevo Laredo migrant shelter with a view of Texas.
