HUMBLE, TX – An armored car service crew was refilling an outside ATM machine when they were ambushed by gunmen at a Chase Bank along the North Freeway feeder road near FM 1960. It happened at 10:30 Monday morning in plain sight of dozens of people like Kirk Filipe.
”I was just backing out and I heard pow, pow – eight to ten gunshots, Felipe said. Felipe said a parking lot traffic jam was created by the panic of everyone trying to drive away. His car was side swiped and locked in a traffic jam so he fled on foot. He found most stores had already locked their doors and he still didn’t know exactly where the gunshots were coming from as he kept running.
Humble Police says three or four black males driving a Dodge vehicle began firing at the guards. The guards returned fire. One of them was struck several times. The get-away car was found about a mile away near a nursing home.
Those who did not see the shooting heard it. They say it was rapid fire gunshots in two or three bursts and the get-away vehicle drove off in front of everyone. At that point people rushed to help the wounded guard who was on the ground bleeding.
“Yes he was conscious and he was just laying there in a lot of pain and I just started caressing his legs and helped one of the other guys elevate his legs until the paramedics got there,” said Kabaca Jones.
The guard is in critical condition. The search is still on for the gunmen.
