Houston Democratic Congressman Al Green says he agrees with President Obama that now is the time to fix the nation’s broken immigration system.
President Obama is urging a renewed bipartisan effort to pass immigration reform. Congressman Green believes it can still be done this year.
He says “comprehensive immigration is something that has passed the Senate. There is a bill pending in the House that Democrats have filed. We need to take that up and we need to try and get that passed in the House.”
Green says border security is being strengthened and undocumented immigrants need to be lifted out of the shadows.
He says “have a pathway to citizenship, secure our borders, do it in a comprehensive way and put this behind us. So that our country will move on.”
The Senate has already passed an immigration reform bill and sent it to the house.
The bill would further strengthen U.S. border security and provide a long and arduous path to citizenship for millions of undocumented immigrants.
