Mayor Parker won her third and final term as Mayor of Houston. But she may have also secured a brighter political future.
Mayor Annise Parker’s convincing re-election victory appears to leave her well positioned to run for higher office at some point.
University of Houston Political Science Professor Brandon Rottinghaus says after Parker completes her final term as Mayor, she could engage in policy issues at the federal level before returning to Houston.
Rottinghaus says “you know work on those matters for the government and be able to raise your profile and extend your network and then come back home an try to test your hand again at electoral politics.”
He says during that time, the Democratic party might have a bit of resurgence in Texas allowing Parker a better shot at winning statewide office.
The Mayor says she is concentrating on the task at hand, not contemplating another political campaign.
