The Aggie bonfire collapsed while under construction fourteen years ago today, killing 12 people and injuring 27 more on November 18th 1999.
The bonfire stack was nearly 60-feet-tall and was made up of about 5,000 logs. After the accident, the long standing tradition was discontinued.
In 2002, a student-led group began holding a bonfire celebration off campus. A memorial was held on campus at 2:42 a.m. this morning, the same time the collapse occurred.
This year’s off campus bonfire is scheduled for November 26th.
