George P. Bush is running for Texas Land Commissioner. But the son of Jeb Bush and grandson of former President George H.W. Bush is emphasizing he is more conservative than the moderate republican views generally associated with the Bush family.
George P. Bush says he draws the most inspiration not from the administrations of his grandfather or his uncle former President George W. Bush, but from former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.
University of Houston Political Science professor Brandon Rottinghaus says the younger Bush joins a growing list of republicans, politically moving more to the right of center.
Rottinghaus says “its certainly surprising in a way because you know, you would think that given that he has a sort of famous name and has deep political roots.”
But with the political primary coming up in March, Rottinghaus says Bush is positioning himself to appeal to more Republicans in Texas.
Rottinghaus expects Bush to have easy victories in the primary in March and the general election in November.
