(HOUSTON, TX)– Surgeons at Duke University broke the “No Pets Allowed in the OR” rule when they had a 7-year-old girl’s service dog accompany her during minor surgery today [Wednesday]. . K.K. Krawczyk has a rare disorder that makes her susceptible to severe drops in blood pressure.
Her mother Michelle says rescue dog “JJ” was there to alert surgeons in case her daughter had a possible allergic reaction to the anesthesia.
“JJ is very sensitive and often times can tell us if KK’s having a reaction or starting to have a reaction before we see any clinical symptoms.”
Surgery went without a hitch, and JJ spend most of the time asleep under her trainer’s chair.
