HOUSTON – The teenage boy charged with capital murder in the satanic killing of a girl in Clear Lake made a court appearance Tuesday in Harris County and new gruesome details were revealed including confirmation that the crime was sparked by Satan worship.
The 15 year old victim, Corriann Cervantes, was strangled, sexually assaulted with a curtain rod, stabbed with a screw driver, hit with an ashtray and toilet lid. Court documents says puncture wounds were found on her face and an upside down cross was carved on to her abdomen.
Prosecutor John Jordan says 17 year-old Jose Reyes told another juvenile that he could sell his soul to the devil by killing the 15 year-old girl they’d been hanging out with in an empty apartment. He says the girl went to the apartment willingly and investigators don’t believe the murder plot was hatched until after the three were there.
“The juvenile inquired (to Reyes) if he committed murder if that would initiate him into him being able to sell his soul to the devil and Mr. Reyes said yes. After that the brutal murder and torture occurred,” Jordan said.
Jordan says both Reyes and the other juvenile participated in the killing. They are said to have been caught because family members turned them in to police.
“Thank goodness family members have integrity and decided to cooperate with law enforcement because that led to his eventual arrest,” Jordan said.
Reyes will be tried as an adult but he is not eligible for the death penalty.
“Under the law if someone is 17 years-old and they are convicted of capital murder they would get a life sentence and possibly be eligible for parole in 40 years,” Jordan said.
