A prominent Houston police family laid one of their own to rest today. Retired Houston Police Sergeant Dana Tweedie was memorialized at a funeral held at St. Luke’s Methodist church Friday morning.  Hundreds of law enforcement officers, friends and family attended.  The service was led in part by Billy Tweedie, an Episcopal priest in Austin.  Retired Houston Police Sergeant Diane Young Murray was typical of the mourners in attendance.   “I’m friends with his brother Bill. We worked together for many years. I just have a lot of love and respect for the family.”

61 year old Dana Tweedie and his wife Linda, an active Houston Police officer, were riding their motorcycle along Galveston’s Seawall when a car pulling out of a gas station hit them.  Linda Tweedie is still hospitalized with severe injuries.  The driver of that car, 18 year old Callie Inman is charged with intoxication manslaughter.  Community businesses donated their services to the family….George Lewis and Son’s handled the funeral while Earthman Resthaven Cemetery provided a burial plot.  Donations to the Tweedie family’s medical expenses can be made thru the Houston Police Officer’s Union.

Cash or Checks can be mailed to the HPOU, 1600 State Street, Houston TX 77007.  Please put “Tweedie” in the memo line of checks.  HPOU is giving 100% of the donated funds to the Tweedie family.
