Sandy Nguyen, 28, is accused of faking son’s cancer and taking over $25,000 in donations from community.
Colorado mother was arrested Thursday Mar. 13. She allegedly used the scammed money to finance a trip to Disneyland.
According to CBS Denver, her story was he had been diagnosed with cancer in Sept. 2012. She sought financial help through school fundraisers and community support.
Nguyen not only convinced her six-year-son he was fatally ill with cancer, but had the entire family fooled for two years. Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Captain Larry Etheridge told ABC7 that at this time, Nguyen is believed to be the only one who knew it was a scam.
Nguyen faces two felony charges of theft and criminal impersonation.
