A north Houston woman was in jail Monday for allegedly beating her five-year-old son with a stick.
The beating was reported March 5 after a teacher at the boy’s elementary school noticed bruising and swelling on his face. The teacher took him to the school nurse’s office where they reportedly found bruises and lacerations on his torso, plus scarring on his forehead and lower legs.
The boy told his teacher his injuries were from a “whooping” from his mother, charging documents state. He said she used a stick.
Houston police said they interviewed the mother — Ebony Lenora Collins, 25 — and she told them her son’s injuries were from a vehicle accident. She allegedly claimed he was taken to the hospital after the crash, but police said the hospital had no record of this.
According to court documents, the mother then told a CPS case worker that her son was instead injured in a bounce house at a birthday party, but she reportedly refused to answer any subsequent questions about the incident.
Collins was charged with injury to a child. Bond was set at $80,000.
