It’s been his life-long dream to play in the NFL. For nearly a year, he was talked about as being the likely No. 1 overall pick. Yet when the moment came and the Houston Texans chose him with their first pick in the first round, it still caught him off guard.
“It hit me. I told my mom , ‘I love you to death,'” Clowney said. “I was so happy… It was a great moment for me and my family.”
Clowney’s come a long way. His father spent almost 12 years in prison on a burglary charge. So his mom, Joseena, worked tirelessly to support her family.
Now as the first pick in the draft, Clowney can finally give back to his mom.
“This is just a blessing,” he said. “I can finally take care of my mom. She’s been working to take care of me and my sister her whole life.”
