(HOUSTON) – The father of a victim in one of Houston’s most notorious murder cases has died.
Randy Ertman was the father of Jennifer Ertman, who died in a brutal rape and murder in 1993 and they both leave behind a legacy to help families of murder victims all over Texas.
For 21 years, Randy Ertman has been known as the father of a murder victim.
His daughter Jennifer Ertman and and her friend Elizabeth Pena were raped, then strangled in TC Jester Park by gang members.
“When he told me he was dying, I went up there and spent hours with him and I told him what you’ve done on behalf of survivors of homicide in Texas will last a lifetime,” said Andy Kahan, the City of Houston’s crime victims advocate.
Among Mr. Ertman’s contributions to crime victims was the allowance of victims to make what’s commonly called victim impact statements in the courtroom, Kahan said.
He was present himself when ring leader Peter Cantu was put to death.
A tragic legacy, but one that allows families of other victims some solace.
