(HOUSTON) – A 35-year-old suspect has been charged in the 1995 fatal shooting of a man, Houston Police Department said.
Chad Everett Bujano was only 16 years old when he allegedly shot and killed Kristian Gaona, 18.
Houston police said Gaona was with three friends when they were approached by a black SUV at 6500 Ashcroft, around 12:50 p.m., on Nov. 12, 1995.
Bujano, the alleged driver, is accused of verbally harassing the group of friends. When Gaona did not respond to the driver’s taunts, Bujano allegedly fired a weapon at the group.
Gaona was struck and transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police said the trail went cold, despite attempts to arrest the boy, who was known to officers in the area.
A recent review of the case revealed Bujano was living in Houston, prompting officers to arrest the man.
Bujano allegedly admitted to shooting Gaona before fleeing to Mexico to live with relatives.
He is certified to be tried as an adult, police said.
