By JP Pritchard — Several dozen activists are calling attention to what they fear is a plan to cut down one or more old oak trees. The trees are in the path of a road expansion project along Louisiana Street in League City.
Among the trees is a 100-year old Compton oak.
Leslye Mize is a tree activist and vigil organizer who’s trying to protect the trees by calling attention to their possible date with chain saws.
Mize says the city council isn’t saying what the plan is, but the activists are assuming they’re planning to remove the old tree or trees.
In the meantime, Mize says her group is waiting to see what the plan is, but they’re exploring their options, including looking into the possibility of moving the historic tree. Mize says she and her backers are ready to embark on a fundraising effort if it looks like money is needed to help protect the old trees.
