Police Shoot, Kill Eighth Grader in Brownsville

Police shot and killed an armed 15-year old. The student was an eighth grader in a Brownsville middle school.

The police arrived on the scene at 8:00 a.m. today after they received a call about an individual in possession of a gun at Cummings Middle School.

Police say a gun that appeared to be a full-powered handgun was the root of the confusion.

Police said they repeatedly told the 15-year-old to put the gun down, but instead he turned it on them.

Orlando Rodriguez, interim chief of the Brownsville police department, Release s statement.

“These types of weapons certainly convinced the personnel on scene of its’ potential threat to them,” Rodriguez said.

Brownsville police released a picture of the pellet gun (see above) to explain how real it appears to be.

The student was taken to Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville where he was pronounced dead. According to the Brownsville Herald, one additional student was detained for questioning.

School administrators placed the campus on lockdown. No other students were injured.
