As Managing Editor of News 92 FM, Veteran Journalist Norm Uhl manages the day to day operations of our news room. However, when he’s not doing the news, he’s doing the blues.
Norm is a founding member of the band, Brother2Brother, which has made the Grammy Ballot four times, twice for songs written by Norm. He plays keyboards, a mean harmonica, sings and is the principal songwriter on the band’s two CD’S, “Looking for Texas” (2006) and “Texas Blues Rocks.” (2012) He also co-produced both albums and is a voting GRAMMY member.
Norm and his wife Debra live in Spring and are “empty nesters” with three grown sons (Jonathan, Travis and Tristan) and one grandson (Aiden). The only child left at home is their German Shepherd, “Nika.”
Norm reported for KHOU 11 for many years covering the police beat, He also covered some big national and international stories. He covered the Waco Siege and went to Berlin to cover the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989.
What viewers remember most though is his popular series, “Norm at Work,” where he featured working people and gave their jobs a try, usually with comic results. Yes, he was doing “Dirty Jobs” long before the cable series of that name.
Norm was born in Kentucky but like the rest of us transplanted Texans, he got here as fast as he could. Norm said,”I grew up in Lexington with its beautiful horse farms, but once I visited Houston that was it for me and I set about to get the college degree and the news experience I needed to land a job here. I love Houston and Texas and can’t imagine living anywhere else.”
